About

Nuttakit Kundum

I came to finance through poker, where you never know exactly what the other players hold. Markets are far bigger and messier than a poker table — but the same uncertainty is what pulled me in.

What I want from them is to understand how data connects to price movement, not to treat them as a shortcut to money or a place to gamble. This site is the working notebook for that: solvers, drills, and paper notes, all of it running in the browser.

How I got here

Poker first, then the part of finance that looks like poker

Poker taught me to reason about hidden information before I had a name for it. You act on a distribution, not a fact — and the discipline of separating a good decision from a good outcome is the same discipline a research process needs. Counterfactual regret minimization is the formal version of that instinct, which is why so much of this site is spent taking it apart: Kuhn, then Leduc, then the neural variants, each one small enough to hold in your head and watch converge.

Markets were the natural next table. I research alphas on WorldQuant BRAIN, where I reached Expert level in 2026 Q2 — cross-sectional ranking, neutralization, turnover control, and the automated pipelines that keep candidate signals flowing instead of arriving in batches whenever I think one up. The bottleneck stopped being ideas and became how carefully I screen them. Two BRAIN competitions have placed me 1st in Thailand.

Along the way I have joined BRAIN roadshows at Khon Kaen and Chulalongkorn, helped run quant research nights, and mentored a friend from software engineering into quant, who now represents Thailand at IQC. Teaching the material is the fastest way I know to find out which parts of it I only thought I understood.

Everything published here is a study artifact rather than a product. The solvers are real and the numbers are computed live, but the notes are mine and the mistakes are too — where a page is unverified, it says so at the top.

What I work on

Four threads, one question — how data connects to price

4 threads
Quant

Cross-sectional alpha research

Signal construction and backtesting on WorldQuant BRAIN — ranking, neutralization, turnover control, correlation screening, and simulation pipelines that test candidates continuously instead of by hand. Expert level, 2026 Q2, with over 300 alphas accepted into the submitted pool.

CFR

Counterfactual regret minimization

Benchmarking CFR variants — CFR+, Discounted CFR, MCCFR — on Kuhn and Leduc hold'em, plus Deep CFR and DeepStack-style depth-limited resolving. Every solver on this site trains in the browser so the convergence is watchable rather than asserted.

Poker

Mixed-game study tools

Self-grading drills for the nine-game rotation, PLO preflop and post-flop trainers built on the Hwang framework, and exact 2-7 triple draw equity and EV work. Solver output turned into ranges, charts, and drills a human can actually practise against.

Engineering

The software underneath

Research is only as good as the harness around it. I build the pipelines, APIs, and interfaces that make results reproducible — and I keep rules encoded rather than remembered, so the work stays correct as the constraints move.
